Vivery Platform for Food Banks and Pantries Named Finalist in 2022 Chicago Innovation Awards

New Vivery digital solution from the Thierer Family Foundation helps Greater Chicago Food Depository modernize access to food and social programs

Chicago, Sept. 22, 2022 — The Thierer Family Foundation, the organization helping nonprofits increase their impact through technology, has been selected as one of the Top 100 Finalists still in the running for the 21st annual Chicago Innovation Awards for its new Vivery platform for food banks and pantries. The awards celebrate the most innovative new products and services in the Chicago region across all organization sizes, sectors and industries. Over 400 business and civic leaders will come together to honor the winners when they are announced on Nov. 16 at Morgan Manufacturing.

Vivery is a powerful, user-friendly, and fully supported digital platform to help food banks and pantries equalize access to food. Developed in 2020 by the Thierer Family Foundation in collaboration with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the tech solution was initially created in response to the growing challenges of the food assistance ecosystem when the pandemic hit. These challenges have since been compounded by inflation and rising food prices resulting in a steady increase of people seeking food assistance in Chicago and throughout the country.

“Chicago continues to rise as a global hub of innovation due to the breadth of organizations in our region that introduce a stream of new products and services into the market each year,” said Tom Kuczmarski, co-founder of the awards. “This year’s nominees generated a combined total of $6.2 billion in revenues through their new products and services alone.”

Each of the Top 100 Finalists is also in the running for the annual “People’s Choice Award,” selected through online balloting at https://chicagoinnovation.com/peoples-choice-award-voting/
Out of the Top 100 Finalists, the judges will select 20 winners of the Chicago Innovation Awards. The winners will be invited to ring the Nasdaq Bell in New York City, invited to separate meetings with the Mayor, Governor and Cook County President, and receive widespread media recognition.

About Thierer Family Foundation

The Thierer Family Foundation was founded by Nasrin and Mark Thierer in December 2015, with a mission to increase the impact of nonprofits by helping them leverage technology to be more effective, efficient, and sustainable. The foundation strategically funds innovative technology projects to modernize access to food and significantly change the way an organization can serve their target audience. By investing in technology, the Thierer Family Foundation can greatly impact an organization’s reach, help organizations deliver on their mission, and ultimately serve more people. Their hope is that this approach will pave the way for other funders to see the value of investing in technology within the nonprofit sector.
